Company/Organization: NYC Dept. of City Planning

Description:

The Department of City Planning (DCP) promotes strategic growth, transit-oriented development and sustainable communities to enhance quality of life in the City. This is achieved in part by initiating comprehensive, consensus-based planning and zoning changes for individual neighborhoods and business districts, as well as establishing policies and zoning regulations applicable citywide. The Department supports the City Planning Commission and each year reviews approximately 450 land use applications for actions such as zoning changes, special permits and other discretionary approvals. It assists both government agencies and the public by providing policy analysis and technical assistance relating to housing, transportation, community facilities, demography, waterfront and public space.

The Department is seeking talented undergraduate and graduate students with a focus on planning, urban design, public policy, technology or related fields for summer internships. Interns will have the opportunity to work in one of DCP’s divisions including the Borough Offices, Urban Design, Zoning, Waterfront and Open Space, and Geographic Information Systems. Please visit http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcp/pdf/about/dcp_divisions_2014_summer_intern.pdf for the full list of participating divisions and to find an internship that best matches your interests and studies.
