About us: LaunchProgress encourages young progressives to run for electoral office in order to grow the base of future national leaders. LaunchProgress Action Fund, a nonprofit organization, works with local, state, and national allies to identify youth leaders who represent our changing, diverse America—women, people of color, people from lower-income families, people who are disabled—who our political parties may not traditionally recruit or support. Through events, communications, and researched-focused advocacy campaigns, we connect young progressive leaders to unique professional development resources.

LaunchProgress is looking for a Communications Intern. S/he will gain hands-on opportunity to learn about social media and general communications strategies for a small political start-up non-profit organization including gaining broad exposure to making connections with allied organizations in progressive, youth, and political organization fields. This intern will advance our mission to have more young people in office by sharing and promoting our organization’s work and will also have the opportunity to write in their own name with potential for broader publication. This internship will require 10 hours of work per week and may have the flexibility to be able to work at home/school while also may require to attend events in NYC.

Responsibilities:
• Maintaining LaunchProgress press database, press clips, and press list
• Drafting press releases, blog entries, and other external communications
• Assisting in communications outreach and LaunchProgress events
• Researching social media best practices and carrying out projects to implement new tools
• Other ad-hoc projects, administrative work, and research duties

Qualifications:

• Previous experience managing social media (Facebook, Twitter including Tumblr and/or Instagram) for an organization, group, club or personal knowledge
• Reliable, task-oriented, good communication and interpersonal skills
• Independent self-starter and ability to work independently
• Passionate about progressive change a plus
• Prior experience in communications or marketing for political campaigns, nonprofit organizations, start-up organizations a plus
