Ars Nova seeks an Artistic Intern, a Management and Development Intern, a Marketing Intern and a Production Intern to assist with the programming and general operations of a vibrant, eclectic theater. These internships offer a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in artistic development, management, promotion, and producing.

The ideal candidates for all four positions will be motivated self-starters with strong organizational and communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. All internships have a flexible start date of Monday, August 19 and go through the end of the year. The internships are unpaid, but a weekly stipend or college credit is available.

Qualifications:

ARTISTIC INTERN
Working closely with the Artistic Coordinator and having daily interaction with the Artistic Director and Associate Artistic Director, this intern’s primary responsibility will be to assist the artistic staff with the daily administration and programming of the theater. Responsibilities may include logging, tracking and evaluating submissions; assisting with Ars Nova’s fall production, Out Loud play readings, developmental workshops, as well as Play Group and Uncharted meetings; scouting theater, comedy and music in New York City on behalf of the company and making recommendations; and general administrative support for the artistic staff. The Artistic Intern will have a heavy amount of daily interaction with Ars Nova’s vibrant artist community as well as with all administrative staff, making this an ideal opportunity for a young professional interested in learning about the day-to-day of a non-profit theater company and hoping to gain hands-on experience in artistic development and producing. The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills, proficiency in Word and Excel, and database experience. This is a full-time position.

MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT INTERN
Working closely with and directly reporting to the Development Director and General Manager, this intern’s primary responsibilities may include:

Development: assisting with projects such as donor database maintenance; donor acknowledgement; material preparation for grants; and coordination of special events.
Management: assisting with projects such as check processing; budget management; vendor relations; and contract drafting. Opportunities exist to explore other avenues as well.

The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills, proficiency in Word and Excel, and database experience. This is a full-time position.

MARKETING INTERN
Working closely with and directly reporting to the Marketing Associate, and having daily interaction with the artistic and administrative staff, this intern’s primary responsibility will be to assist the Marketing Associate with the daily branding and promotion of the theater, on both the institutional and producing levels. The Marketing Intern will have a heavy amount of exposure to Ars Nova’s vibrant and diverse array of programming, making this an ideal opportunity for a young professional interested in learning about the day-to-day promotion of a small, yet incredibly active non-profit theater company. Other responsibilities may include marketing research; press and cross-promotional outreach; program layouts; proofreading and editorial work; social network and website updates; light video/photo editing; and basic graphic design. The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills, experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Wordpress, and basic HTML knowledge, and proficiency in Word and Excel. Experience with self-promotion a plus. This is a full-time position.

PRODUCTION INTERN
Working closely with and directly reporting to the Production Manager, and having daily interaction with the design and technical staff for various shows and projects, this intern’s primary responsibility will be assisting the Production Manager with the organization and maintenance of the technical resources and storage areas, as well as working with the load in, run and strike teams in all departments. The Production Internship is a hands-on position and the intern will be expected to participate in all areas of production – scenery, lighting, sound, video, stage management, costumes, as well as other tasks that may come up in the course of putting together a production. Other responsibilities may include hanging and focusing lights; setting up microphones and speakers; hanging curtains; setting up the backline (instruments, amps, and drums); serving as PA or backstage crew; loading and unloading trucks; painting and construction; maintaining the gel stock and other production inventories. The Production Intern may also be called upon for research or administrative duties for the production department. The Production Intern will engage on a regular basis with designers, technicians, and performing artists. Production experience a plus. Part time schedule is built around programming calendar and individual availability. This is a part-time position.
