Paid internship: $10 - $12 per hour
Immediate need... Winter / Spring 2012
25-35 hours / week

Hands-on internship for a student or recent graduate with some writing and website experience, a high degree of confidence and willingness to learn and make a solid contribution

Potential to lead to ongoing part- or full-time position


Website: create content, research, write, edit, link to social media, network with other organizations, develop blog & forum

Communications / General: research, write, edit content for newsletter (print and electronic), brochures, trade show media and other marketing / communications collateral

Social Media: develop content for Facebook & Twitter, implement strategy to drive traffic among social media, website, blog, forum

Data management: source data; limited data entry, manage member lists & info, and work with website vendor to troubleshoot and provide solutions

Other duties as assigned

Responsibilities:
- Write effective copy. Spelling counts. Punctuation counts. Grammar counts

- Keep website and blog up to date

- Troubleshoot issues with website developer and host; ensure that links work and the website performs as desired

- Source and recruit bloggers to develop content

- Gather content, compile and publish monthly electronic newsletter

- Create / update print and electronic marketing pieces for national events, conferences, etc.

- Assist with event planning as needed

- Attend and represent organization at conferences and enroll members

- Field calls from the public as needed

- Stay abreast of industry developments through reading and research

- Coordinate online marketing and communications activities and update Web sites

- Collaborate with in-office staff as well as key volunteers and public relations & marketing-communications consultants to develop content and improve systems
- Edit and proof other team members work and provide constructive feedback
- Monitor Facebook & Twitter traffic & accounts

Qualifications:

- GPA of 3.0 or higher + references + writing samples

- Experience / familiarity with custom website content (personal blogs & webpages count)

- Possess strong writing skills, editing, researching, presentation, interpersonal relations, and customer management

- Familiarity with AP Style (preferable) or similar

- Possess skills at assessing issues, defining solutions, and implementing strategy

- Possess skills at initiating innovative ideas, unifying team members, and judging correctly what will appeal to target audiences
- Provide links to 1-3 social networking profiles to demonstrate interest and knowledge

- Willingness to learn by doing, acquire new skills and to help others
- Plays well with others: excels in an environment that values leadership, efficiency, dependability, and organization

Helpful:

- Layout / design skills & competency

- HTML familiarity

- Extracurricular activities: music, theater, clubs, sports, travel, the outdoors... looking for well-rounded person with outside interests
- Interest in medicine, including holistic / integrative / CAM

- Interest in sales & marketing
Preferred Majors: Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Liberal Arts
