The NephCure Foundation is the only organization solely committed to seeking a cause and cure for two potentially devastating kidney conditions, Nephrotic Syndrome and Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). Our goal is to help science unlock the biological mechanisms that cause these serious conditions and ultimately to find a way to cure and prevent them.
The NephCure Foundation is seeking a Nutrition Educational Intern to take charge of the seasonal nutritional newsletter that is sent out to members of NephCure. This position is ideal for a dedicated, detail-oriented student between sophomore and senior year in college.
Skills:
• Creative and unique marketing and social media skills to recruit chefs and restaurant owners, and have the right approach to contacting them through e-mail, by phone, and going to local restaurants.
• Develop proper communication skills with contacting and recruiting professionals, including nutritionists, chefs, and restaurant owners across the country.
• Become knowledgeable of the diet of a kidney disease patient, and be able to explain to chefs and members of NephCure why these dietary restrictions are necessary. (Be resourceful of credible materials online).
• Enthusiastic about nutrition and living a healthy lifestyle.
• Being able to calculate nutritional content of recipes per serving. Must also be familiar with weight (dry) and volume (liquid) conversions. (Accurate calculation sheets can be found online).
• Some basic skills in web design.
Hours/ Credit: A commitment of 15 hours a week are required, but 20 hours are strongly encouraged to gain a broader sense of the company as well as our clients. Depending on school policies, 3-6 credits can be awarded for this position. This position is unpaid.
Fall internships begin September 6th and run through December 9th.
