Records and Information Specialist (Library)

POSITION DESCRIPTION: This is a temporary position for an intern to assist the librarian in the Information Services Center in our R&D Center in Conshohocken, PA. The ISC is a small technical and business library serving a core of approximately 500 employees globally. The ISC is implementing several projects for which assistance is needed. We are in the process of moving our small physical collection, digitizing internally generated documents and implementing a new library catalogue and knowledge management system (from InMagic to GeniePlus/Presto). The opening is for a library student (chemical and/or engineering background preferred) with previous digitization experience or sufficient current knowledge in library and content management trends to assist in two or more of the following tasks:
1. Digitization (scanning) of paper records
2. creation of metadata
3. implementing a taxonomy
4. data cleanup, transfer and/or entry
5. taking an inventory of the physical collection (i.e. checking the shelves against the catalog & vice versa)
6. Cataloging using Dewey classification.
This position requires experience in copy-cataloging procedures and familiarity with database maintenance guidelines. An ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and an aptitude for technology. He or she should be able to make informed decisions within given specifications with little supervision.

Skills and experience needed:
BS degree (Marketing, Business, Communications, Information Management or Library Science) with coursework in Chemistry, Biology or Engineering; or Masters of Library Science
Previous experience in records management and/or in cataloging and classifying materials
Demonstrated familiarity with metadata standards, communication standards, and classifying systems.
Broad knowledge of library tools, systems, and resources in corporate organizations. Solid technology background, including Microsoft Office Suite software, Sharepoint and familiarity with trends in electronic information
· Familiarity with maintaining records and data in various information, library, and archival systems, as well as a familiarity with metadata/Library standards such as Dublin Core, MARC, AACR2/RDA, LCSH, LC authorities, and LC classification and shelf listing.
