Field Internship
Description:
The Field Department of Equality Texas coordinates and encourages the activism of Equality Texas members statewide to advocate and lobby for the elimination of discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity/expression. Activism occurs through Equality Texas events, student clubs, and the e-mail action center network and member activists. Our activities to advance LGBT civil rights include Lobby Day at the Capitol, organizing phone banks, volunteer recruitment & retention, and staffing information tables. Field Interns are utilized year-round to assist the department in achieving its goals.
Qualifications:
Responsibilities include:Research for local campaigns and/or outreach projects.
Coordinate volunteers for various advocacy campaigns and Equality Texas outreach teams across the state of Texas.
Assist in the planning and execution of field programs, with a focus on increasing the number of Equality Project trainings.
Conduct basic office responsibilities such as mailings, database entry, photocopying, filing, etc.
Conduct phone banking and outreach to targeted groups.
Assist in the management of Equality Project trainings.
Assist in field recruitment of participants for our bi-annual Lobby Day at the Texas Capitol (2013).
This internship is primarily based out of our local headquarters. The Equality Texas office is located in downtown Austin within walking distance to the State Capitol. The office is a friendly and fun place to work. Internships with the Field Department offer you a chance to make a difference while you build your experience and résumé.

Equality Texas was incorporated in 1989 as a 501(c)(4) organization. It is the only nonpartisan statewide political advocacy organization lobbying the Texas Legislature for the elimination of discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity/expression.Equality Texas Foundation was incorporated in 1990 as a 501(c)(3) organization. The Foundation conducts research and educates Texans about policies and their effect on Texans of all sexual orientations and gender identities/expressions. The Foundation also coordinates efforts of LGBT and allied organizations across the state to achieve its goals and objectives. The Foundation programs serve to educate and empower Texans on equality issues.
