Collegiate Diversity Intern

We are actively looking for an enthusiastic college student to serve as a liaison between the Blood Center and collegiate organizations at various universities in the Austin area and help expand the blood donor base to reflect the ethnic diversity of the communities we serve.This internship will occur during the 2012 Fall and 2013 Spring semesters and will offer an opportunity to learn more about various aspects of Community Outreach and Public Health. Individuals studying Public Health, Communications, Marketing, or a related field are encouraged to apply. This is an unpaid internship, however, school credit can be offered if appropriate.
What will you get to do?
• Assist in the development of approved recruiting strategies to enlist new collegiate donor groups for campus blood drives and execute those strategies to meet and exceed account goals.
• Promote blood donation awareness and maximize existing collegiate accounts.
• Build relationships within diverse collegiate groups/organizations that lead to increased blood donation
• Assist in the creation of and make presentations to various collegiate groups/organizations.
• Assist in the development of and maintain successful relationships with collegiate blood drive coordinators and cultivate potential blood drive coordinators while promoting blood donation.
• Prepare periodic and special reports on recruitment activities.
• Work closely with other account executives to maximize drive efficiency and resources while assisting them with presentations, health fairs/events and media interviews.
Qualifications:
Who are we looking for?
• Organized, self-starters who are able to prioritize under changing conditions, manage multiple projects, and handle stressful situations.
• College junior or senior preferred
• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
• Prefer candidates be at least 21 years of age, have a valid Texas driver’s license, proof of insurance, and an acceptable driving record.
• Must be able to work independently with little supervision.
• Have excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Must be available to work flexible hours, some evenings and/or weekends as necessary, and can devote 10-15 hours of work per week.
