Overview of the ACU 2012 Internship Program:Each semester, the American Conservative Union selects talented college students and recent graduates for its elite internship program. The ACU Internship Program provides a unique professional development experience designed to give participants first-hand knowledge of the state of the American conservative movement and our efforts to grow and strengthen it. Interns are tasked with a number of exciting responsibilities, from assisting in grassroots advocacy to helping plan and present our annual CPAC event, the nation’s largest annual gathering of conservatives. For each semester – spring, summer and fall – the ACU selects one intern in each of the below area of specialties.
Each prospective intern, regardless of desired specialty, should: possess a genuine interest in supporting the conservative movement; be detail-oriented, energetic and trustworthy; have basic knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and popular social networking platforms; posses good research skills; and be a team player with the ability to work in fast-paced environment.
Areas of Specialty:
• Communications & Media Relations:
The Communications Intern is responsible for assisting with the organization’s earned, online and paid media efforts. Activities include helping plan and execute press events, maintaining a national press list database, writing and distributing written press materials, assisting in the administration of online media and social networking activities and much more.
• CPAC DepartmentThe CPAC Department Intern is responsible for assisting with the organization and implementation of the annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, DC, regional CPAC conferences, and other ACU-related events in a programmatic and administrative manner.
• Development & Membership Recruitment
The Development Intern is primarily responsible for assisting the Development team with the ACU’s fundraising efforts and member relations activities. This includes, but is not limited to, caging donations, writing and distributing letters, assisting with events and placing calls to and fielding calls from donors.
• Governmental Relations
The Government Relations Intern is primarily responsible for assisting the Director of Government Relations with the ACU’s Hill and policy advocacy efforts, including assisting in research efforts and maintaining contact with congressional and state governmental offices.
