Marketing and Social Media Intern for Published Novelist

Published novelist is seeking a Marketing and Social Media Intern to handle daily marketing activities associated with book promotion and sales. College students, recent college grads or professionals with an interest in book publicity, marketing, the business side of writing, and social media are encouraged to apply.Internship duties include:
-Managing author’s social media sites: Twitter, Facebook, Goodreads
-Creating original tweets and status updates to promote author’s works and interact with readers and publishing industry professionals
-Updating author’s blog and website
-Responding to interview requests, reader emails, and book reviewers
-Managing author’s interview and guest blog calendar
-Tracking book sales and updating sales spreadsheet
-Compiling mailing list and creating newsletter
-Collaborating with author to develop book promotion strategies
-Aiding author in preparation for launch of two subsequent novels this springThis is an unpaid internship that will provide an incredible opportunity to learn the inner-workings of book promotion while collaborating with a novelist and college professor. Solid, valuable internship experience will be gained for candidates hoping to enter the fields of publishing, book publicity, writing, or marketing.
Perks include:
-Author will write letters of recommendation for graduate work or future employment and serve as a reference for the right candidate.
-If the candidate is an aspiring writer, author is willing to provide periodic critique of candidate’s writing and/or insight into the publishing process.
-Author is also a French professor and would be willing to provide French language tutoring or assistance on a limited basis.
Qualifications:
The Ideal Candidate will possess the following:-Experience using social media (Twitter and Facebook)
-Strong interest in book promotion, publicity and publishing fields (including digital publishing) and/or a strong interest in writing and a desire to learn the business side of being a successful author
-Creativity and motivation
-Strong writing skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and impeccable organizational skills
-Experience with Microsoft Word and ExcelOther requirements:
-The position is a minimum of ten to fifteen hours per week and will begin in January. The days and hours are flexible for the right candidate. A minimum of a four-five month commitment is required.
-Candidate will initially train in person with the author in Alexandria, VA or Washington, DC. After successful completion of training, candidate may work virtually from home or school.
