Are you looking for a PAID internship that provides experience with both PR/communications and the non-profit world? If the answer is yes, this is the internship for you!The Wisconsin Board for People with Developmental Disabilities (BPDD) is a non-profit organization that was established to advocate on behalf of individuals with developmental disabilities, foster welcoming and inclusive communities, and improve the disability service system. BPDDs mission is to help people with developmental disabilities become independent, productive, and included in all facets of community life.
BPDD welcomes applications for a Public Relations and Communications Internship that will be based in BPDD’s office in downtown Madison, 101 E. Wilson St. Interns will commit 12-15 hours per week and have the ability to travel in-state. We are looking for an intern with excellent organizational, writing, and communication skills.
Interns will have the opportunity to travel to BPDD conferences and events around Wisconsin. Also, interns will have the opportunity to accompany the Communications Director to events sponsored by the Public Relations Society of America.
This internship is intended for juniors or seniors enrolled in a communication-related Bachelor’s program at an accredited college or university. Successful interns can expect to obtain a portfolio of work samples, as well as connections and references in the media field.
Interns will be paid $10/hour and work 12-15 hours/week. The internship is for one semester with the possibility of continuing through the summer and into the fall.
The deadline to apply is 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013. The internship will begin Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013. Interviews for qualified applicants will be held the week of Jan. 14, 2013.
Qualifications:
Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills;Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, with individuals who have various levels of communication;
Familiarity with and/or demonstrated experience in managing social media networks (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), video sharing sites, photo sharing sites;
Attention to detail and a strong ability to problem solve and work under deadline on a variety of projects; and
Capacity to take initiative, prioritize duties, and work independently while functioning as a member of a team.

Responsibilities include:Tags:Assist in creating, editing/proofreading, and publishing web content, official reports, and e-communications (email alerts and newsletters) to complement on-going communications campaigns;
Develop, edit/proofread, and distribute press releases, media advisories, and press kits;
Utilize web-based media distribution services;
Assist in enhancing BPDD’s online profile by updating social networks, including Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, and utilizing web-based tools such as HootSuite, SlideShare and SurveyMonkey;
Assist with photography projects and cover press events and conferences; and
Communicate with other state agencies, university offices, non-profit organizations, and media entities.
