Summer Development Intern
Description:
As part of its mission to foster a sense of global responsibility among the next generation of U.S. leaders and consumers, Mercado Global accepts a limited number of U.S. students as interns at our Panajachel, Guatemala offices. The internship offers the opportunity to learn about the inner workings of an international non-profit organization while becoming familiar with the growing Fair Trade industry.The Development Intern will be a part of the Mercado Global Development Team for a minimum of ten weeks. The Development Intern will gain broad exposure to non-profit management and fundraising, including development operations, donor communication, grant-writing, and research.
This internship provides current college students and recent college graduates with the opportunity to develop key skills and experience with an international non-profit organization while also helping mothers in Guatemala develop the income opportunities they need to send their children to school. This position provides the opportunity to work with our experienced development team as well as our Guatemala and U.S. based staff.
Qualifications:
- Current or recent college graduate from an accredited four-year institution
- Demonstrated interest in non-profit development and international work
- Excellent organizational skills and extreme attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of database management preferred
- Ability to exhibit tact and diplomacy in a confidential environment
- Ability to work in a high-pressure environment and balance competing demands and priorities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel
- Enthusiasm for Mercado Global’s mission
- Flexibility, drive and a sense of humor
