MicroEmpowered was set up with an initial focus on healthy living and sustainable livelihoods for marginalised migrant communities and vulnerable poor in rural areas through life skills education, financial literacy, and environment conscious micro-entrepreneurship and micro-finance.
After applied research activities for several years in northwest India, we aim to initiate our models of engagement in three different locations in the rural areas of Kangra-Dharamsala district in Himachal Pradesh, Jalandhar district in Punjab, and Jaisalmer district in Rajasthan through 2012-13.
Our purpose is to foster and allow individuals, social groups, and communities to reclaim their own destiny and future; on equitable terms, through empowerment particularly rural poor and disadvantaged marginalised populations.
Our goals entail furthering the identification and application of innovative methods to increase empowerment at the local level.
Our commitment is to the people; particularly with regard to leadership, grassroots organizing, collaboration, sustainability, and a reclaimed vision of a positive future.
In short, empowerment is the process that allows one to gain the knowledge, skill-sets, attitude and sustainable economic livelihood empowerment needed to cope with the changing world and the circumstances in which one lives with human dignity.
We envisage an integrated strategy at for alleviating poverty through promoting consciousness towards responsible slow lifestyles and sustained income generating activities that are friendly to others and the environment.
We share the same vision and mission as of our support affiliate organisations and institutions. From an operational point of view, this platform focuses on implementing our new program(s) on life skills education, micro-entrprneurship and micro-finance for poverty alleviation, health and social empowerment.
We also work in support of Self Help Groups (SHGs) for microcredit and related services initiated by the government agencies in rural areas of the region.
Our activities will evolve and develop as per the demands from the rural communities in which we are working, and would continue to include poverty reduction interventions among rural, poor families keeping the principles of sustainable development in mind.
