Short description of internship:
This organization started in 2007 as a result of the drug pandemic that infiltrated Cape
Town’s communities and the realization from the community that they could not sit back and witness the destruction of their young people. Due to a real need in the community for help to overcome drug abuse and to deal with problems such domestic violence, alcohol abuse, gangsterism, etc… the Recovery Circle and support groups became a Recovery Home for men and even women. The addicts on the programme are mostly from disadvantaged communities and unable to pay for their treatment. Those wanting to overcome drug addiction, make a commitment of six months during which time they live at the home. The treatment programme focuses on deliverance and healing of past and present hurts and a preparation for challenging situations that they find themselves in.
Internship tasks:
This home takes on Psychology interns to perform the following tasks and roles under the supervision of a qualified Psychologist:
-Assisting programme Manager
-Working with Support Groups and assisting with programme development
-Counselling of individuals and groups
-Assisting with Sport Group

Qualifications:

Applicant requirements:
-Study background in Psychology or a related field of Counselling
-Previous internship experience preferred
-Able to interact with individuals from different cultural backgrounds
-Have strong communication skills and be confident in working individually and in a group situation
-Able to face challenges and have a mature personality
