Company/Organization: Food & Water Watch - Illinois

Want to help lead the charge to label genetically engineered (GE) foods in Illinois? Food & Water Watch is seeking interns to further our work fighting for food policies that are good for farmers, the environment, consumers, and our right to know what is in our food. This position is part-time, and will run for 6-8 weeks.

Food & Water Watch is a national, non-profit consumer advocacy group. We work to protect water as a public resource rather than a commodity, covering issues related to water privatization, state water policy, and exposing myths and dangers of bottled water. We also work to stop factory fish farming and promote safe and sustainable food. Interns will have the benefit of learning grassroots organizing, coalition building, and advocacy skills from experienced staff.

Responsibilities may include:
Building strategic coalitions with religious groups, labor groups, business, farms, elected officials, citizen activists, and students.
Coordinating campaign events to engage citizens and pressure targets.
Represent Food & Water Watch to recruit new activists at community meetings, festivals, farmers markets, and other events.
Assisting in media outreach to educate millions of people, especially with Facebook and Twitter.
Producing printed and online materials such as action alerts, newsletters, and outreach emails.
Researching emerging issues to move campaigns forward.
Maintain strong records of work and assist with database development.
Hold regular office hours and participate in weekly meetings with Organizing staff

Strong interest in Food & Water Watch issues and commitment to social change.
Strong verbal and written communication and time management skills.
Desire to develop campaign organizing skills.
Ability to work at least 6-8 weeks.
We are looking for a candidate who is available to start as soon as possible.
