Spring 2017 Part Time Art Advisory Internship

A private NY art advisory and curatorial firm, specializing in both established and emerging art and design, is currently accepting applications for 2017 Spring Internships.

Interns will provide research and administrative support in advisory, valuation, collection management, and sales and assist in the firm’s communications and social media initiatives. This internship offers hands-on experience within the context of the contemporary art world industry and interns will gain an understanding of the role of an art advisor including the confluence of art market concepts and art history. The intern will be exposed to essential areas of provenance and historical due diligence, art market analysis, value determinations, collection management, cataloging, research methodologies, and object analysis.

Internship length is generally twelve to fourteen (12-14) weeks, with a minimum commitment of 16 hours (2 days) per week in our downtown Manhattan office beginning in February through May 2017. Start/end dates and work hours are slightly flexible for qualified candidates as is weekly scheduling. This internship provides daily stipend to cover daily transport and lunch. School credit is available and may be designed to meet specific university requirements upon agreement.

Responsibilities include:
• Art market research
• Art database management
• Registrar assistance including object file management & cataloging
• Client luxury acquisition proposals
• Collection management and cataloging
• Preparing presentation and marketing materials for client proposals
• Social media and communication assistance
• Specialty assignments including art expert research, art historical and provenance research
• Administrative assistance

• All interns must be enrolled in a relevant BA degree at minimum OR recent graduates OR transitioning professionals with qualified and applicable skills. Part-time MAs or PhDs are welcome and encouraged.
• Superlative ability in verbal and written communication
• Productivity, efficiency and ability to operate in a fast paced environment is essential
• Demonstrated competence in visual culture, design history and/or art history and/or related fields such as new media, art law and art business
• Must be able to complete the full duration of the internship and meet minimum weekly hours
• Ability to prioritize with effective and professional skills, be comfortable in a high-touch service oriented environment working with HNW clients

• Successful applicants are not necessarily art history majors, but MUST have strong humanities backgrounds and a strong and active interest in modern and contemporary art
• A entrepreneurial self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Excellent organizational skills, detail oriented and highly proficient with technology
• Excellent research skills & industriousness (art history and open source)
• Fluency in all social media apps and excellent digital media skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (mainly Excel, PowerPoint, Word, WordPress); InDesign & Photoshop a plus
