Description:

The Habitat Restoration & Events Intern will be working with the Salmon Protection and Watershed Network (SPAWN) initiative. The Restoration Intern will be responsible for organizing, implementing, and improving the habitat restoration program as well as recruiting volunteers and leading weekly habitat restoration volunteer workdays. The Restoration Intern will gain technical skills in riparian ecology, native and invasive plant identification, native plant propagation, and fisheries biology. The position will also include training in restoration techniques and field methods.

Responsibilities/Tasks:
• Riparian habitat restoration: native planting, invasive species removal, weeding, and maintenance
• Researching and brainstorming ideas to develop and improve restoration program
• Native plant nursery upkeep: seed collection, propagation, transplanting, and organization
• Volunteer recruitment and coordination
• Data entry and database management
• Biweekly posting on organization blog

Qualifications:

Desired Skills/Qualifications:
• Experience or interest in watershed ecology, fisheries biology, botany, and/or environmental studies
• Experience in fieldwork and/or habitat restoration
• Ability to work outside in varying terrain and weather conditions– including in proximity to poison oak
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and organize oneself
• Ability to use PC or Mac proficiently (Microsoft Office)
• Ability to project a positive image with community
• Valid driver’s license (own vehicle a plus)

40 hrs/week

Terms of Employment:
• Project Duration: 12 weeks (minimum)
o Two week trial period
o Possibility for internship extension after 12 week evaluation
• Total hours: 40 hours/week
• Compensation: stipend unavailable; cost-free housing may be available (space limited)

• Boots available depending on foot size
