The Science Communications Intern provides quality programmatic and administrative support for the SciComm Summit. This is a remote / virtual internship that can be based anywhere in the United States. The SciComm Summit is the only virtual science communications summit that brings together communication experts, scientists, and community members in an advanced online platform to advance the field of science communications and increase the capacity of anyone who communicates science to the public.

This internship is unpaid/for college or class credit. The minimum weekly hourly commitment is 10 hours or more. Support is delivered in a remote capacity from any location in the United States with a computer, internet access, and phone coverage. This role is perfect for you if you are a passionate, detail-oriented individual contributor who thrives is a fast-moving, highly changeable environment. You are driven, self-motivated and love to think creatively about solving problems.


The Science Communications Intern for the SciComm Summit…

Communicates with and recruits summit speakers.
Enters speaker information into the summit system.
Promotes the summit on social media and engages with the SciComm community.
Posts regularly on social media about the summit and engages with potential attendees.
Provides general administrative support to the summit team.
Participates in all stages of the summit planning process.
Assists in writing sponsorship proposals and engages in sponsor outreach.
Provides support as needed to strategize, develop, plan, execute and analyze the summit.
Assists in public relations, media outreach, and related follow-up concerning the event.
Writes promotional copy for the summit.
Provides support to speakers, exhibitors, sponsors, and attendees.

Qualifications:

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

Detail oriented.
Personable, able to comfortably and pleasantly deal with a variety of people.
Strong customer service skills.
Problem-solving capabilities necessary to accomplish the duties and tasks of the position.
Ability to correctly make decisions involving issues/problems including when to escalate.
Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
Excellent organizational and planning skills.
Ability to effectively learn and acquire new knowledge and skills.
Ability to share knowledge and work in a strong team-oriented environment.
Proficient in Google for Business (GSuite), Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and e-mail.
Willingness to learn new technology, software, and web-based systems related to the profession.
