AOB will pilot their signature program, Pour Your ART Out, in DC for the first time during Summer 2014. The Program & Event Planning Intern will assist with laying the groundwork for a successful expansion. The workshop will take place at the PEPCO Edison Place Gallery, located in the Gallery Place/Chinatown area of DC. This internship offers excellent opportunities to build skills in project management, gallery practice and community outreach. The selected intern would work closely with project partners, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Urban Alliance, and Latin American Youth Center. This intern will also connect with art and design related businesses in DC and Montgomery County; and develop plans for AOBs exhibition in Edison Place Gallery.

This intern will learn about project management, marketing, fundraising, and event planning from the Executive Director and Communications & Marketing Associate. This intern will learn first-hand what goes into making a nonprofit organization thrive. There will be opportunities for networking and potentially extending the internship.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

*Assist AOB staff to coordinate the program-related efforts of AOBs key project partners (listed above): PEPCO Holdings; the Smithsonian Institution American Art Museum; the Urban Alliance; and the DC Summer Youth Employment Program and the Montgomery County Summer Youth Jobs Program.

*Serve as liaison between the staff of these agencies and Arts on the Block.

*Reach out to and establish relationships with DC-area organizations representing creative professions (e.g., AIA - American Institute of Architects; ASLA - American Society of Landscape Architects; AIGA - American Institute of Graphic Arts, etc.).

*Assist with gallery exhibition layout and execution.

*Pursue in-kind sponsorships related to the program and exhibition (food, printing, framing, etc.).

*With AOB staff, develop marketing materials for distribution during summer program.

*Monitor the program income and expenses, ensuring operation within budget.

*Capture all significant interactions with contacts using Salesforce, AOBs customer relations management system.

*Keep AOB Operations Director and Communications & Marketing Associate apprised of progress.

*Develop summary of program efforts, including accomplishments, challenges, and solutions.

*With lead artist, develop inventory of office and art supplies and equipment.

*Other duties as assigned.

WORK SITE AND SCHEDULE
The intern hired for this position would be able to propose a flexible schedule that includes working at the AOB studio in Kensington, MD and telecommuting. AOB anticipates at least 15-20 hours per week (3- 4 hours/day) would be needed to fulfill the requirements of this position.

COMPENSATION
This internship comes with a $1500 stipend to be paid in two installations. AOB will not be able to provide housing. Depending on your school, you may be able to receive college credit for this internship.
