AmeriCorps members assist on build projects in order to serve more families. They help plan the project by acquiring materials, performing energy audits, or prepping existing homes. These tasks must be completed in order for volunteers to serve. Members lead volunteers, providing quality assurance and safety instruction and monitoring. Providing an excellent volunteer experience leads to their desire to contribute again and support Habitat whether through donations or volunteering. AmeriCorps are often the “face” of Habitat to the community. Members also play a key role in finishing the projects in a timely manner providing a high standard of customer service to the partner families. In addition, AmeriCorps members assist with weatherization projects.• Members will assist in the preservation or construction of homes in one or more of the following three ways: through repairing homes through the Habitat Charlotte Home Repair Program which repairs owner occupied homes, through the building of new Habitat homes, through repairing/rehabbing existing homes for sale to Habitat homeowners, or through providing weatherization services.
• Members will complete tasks on time, and which are part of the team’s priority, while following Habitat Charlotte’s method of building and complying with safety and quality guidelines. The tasks include all aspect building, weatherizing or repairing a Habitat house from lot clearing or project identification to final inspections and punch list. • Relate to volunteers and homeowners as a friend, mentor and trainer, patiently instructing and encouraging others in tasks and participation.
• Promote partnership among all participants in the Habitat program, giving special attention to the needs and concerns of homeowners; and enhancing communication between staff, volunteers, and homeowners.
• Perform tasks that are team priorities.
• Assist in planning for each service day to insure that all necessary resources -- material and human -- are available to complete the task list.
• As needed, Support the Senior Build Up Program by acting as a liason on behalf of Habitat Charlotte to a Charlotte High School. Members will assist the students in recruiting and organizing construction volunteers, learning the importance of giving back to the community , and creating and implementing plans to raise funds for the build
• Maintain Habitat equipment, as assigned.
• Submit AmeriCorps paperwork on a timely basis.

Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills required for this position
• Interest, willingness & ability to serve beside all types of people operating as a team member, communicating openly and maintaining respect for others.
• Organizational ability & follow through
• Leadership experience & interest.
• Initiative & willingness to learn with a positive attitude and flexibility.
• Interest in building
• Driver’s license with a driving record that allows coverage by the affiliate auto insurance.Physical requirements for this position
• Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding,
• Ability to work on the roof (1 or 2 stories)
• Ability to maneuver over uneven ground, stand most or all of day,
• Ability to lift 50 lbs
• Ability to work in tight quarters including crawl spaces and attics while wearing safety gear.

$12,100 for year

Tuesday - Saturday, approx. 7am-4pm
