Description:

The Education Department provides all ages with opportunities to engage with The Phillips Collection and special exhibitions. The museum’s award-winning education initiatives serve 180,000 students, families, and teachers in D.C. and across the country each year.

The K12 Education Intern will gain meaningful training in art museum interpretation and learning, while supporting the department’s needs and initiatives.

Duration: Eight continuous weeks and at least 20-22 hours per week is preferred. Internship length and schedule may vary depending on the needs of the department.

Academic Credit: Depending on the nature of the internship and approval of the students college or university, academic credit may be granted for internships. Student applicants should consult their academic advisor for additional information.

Qualifications:

•Full-time graduate or highly qualified undergraduate student in museum studies, art education, education, studio art, art history.
•Teaching experience preferable; museum and/or studio arts experience a plus.
•A proactive attitude and excellent problem solving skills.
•A professional presence demonstrating flexibility and patience while upholding institutional policies and procedures.
•Strong time management skills.
•Ability to work independently and in a group or team.
•Excellent written/oral communication skills.
Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint proficient.
•Ability to walk/stand or be mobile for at least 90 minutes; ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Duties and
•Supporting the museum’s K12 programming, including: school, outreach, family, and teacher programs; national and local K-12 initiatives; and the production and distribution of educational resources.

•Observing and assisting with Art Links to Learning, including classroom and museum visits, data collection and evaluation.

•Supporting the Teach with the Prism of Arts Integration National Initiative, a five-year initiative focusing on innovative arts-integration teacher training.

•Conducting research on the permanent collection, special exhibitions, and teaching methods for development of national K-12 initiatives, Art Links to Learning, and teacher programs.

•Preparing and maintaining supplies and materials for in-gallery interpretation and art workshops.

•Supporting additional Education Department initiatives and programs as needed.

•Performing additional tasks as assigned
