The Asia Department is seeking an Intern to help monitor and evaluate the work of NED-supported organizations working on North Korean human rights issues. The NED is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Position Summary:

The Asia department is seeking an individual with strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills who has a demonstrated interest in North Korea and democracy work in the Asia region to serve as an Intern for Spring/Summer 2016. The Intern will provide assistance in monitoring and evaluating Korean-language materials and human rights advocacy and program activities in support of the North Korea grants program. Fluency in Korean is required. The position is unpaid and based in Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in monitoring the work of NED’s North Korea grantees and provide analysis on content and quality of Korean-language materials in regular reports to the North Korea program team;
• Assist in media monitoring of political developments in North Korea;
• Conduct desk research on issues relevant to the North Korea grants program;
• Work with other members of the Asia team as requested.


Qualifications:

Requirements:

• Candidates must be able to receive academic credit for the internship and therefore must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate-level program in a related field.
• Qualified candidates should have excellent analytical and writing skills, maintain a strong work ethic and have sharp attention to detail. Students must also have strong computer skills.
• Experience in or study of human rights and democracy issues in North Korea or Northeast Asia is preferred.
• Must be fluent in Korean language (spoken and written).




Additional Info:
Time Commitment: 24-40 hrs/week (not to exceed 40 hours per week)
commitment for the duration of the internship.
Travel Reimbursement: $10/day for commuter expenses
