Company/Organization: City of Lauderhill



Mayor Richard J. Kaplan with the City of Lauderhill in South Florida is continuing his successful paid internship program for the fall of 2014. Interns must be an undergraduate junior or senior or a graduate student studying political science, international relations, marketing, public relations, advertising, communications and media studies, urban and regional planning, environmental engineering, or a similar field.

Applicants must hold a driver’s license and possess strong skills in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Word, as well as general clerical and office skills. Knowledge of social media, Adobe Photoshop and InDesign and web design are a plus.

Flexible hours, including nights and/or weekends are expected. The intern will be typically working 10 to 15 hours per week, but no more than 30. Interns will earn $11/hour.

Applicants must show a strong ability in giving public presentations and communication with public officials and residents. Tasks include attending city commission meetings and workshops, citizen outreach, contacting city officials on the mayors behalf, writing various articles and city proclamations, problem solving and independent research.
