TITLE: Academic Support Internship

REPORTS TO: Full Service Community School Director (Site Supervisor)

SUMMARY: To create and provide academic support and remediation for students at risk of failure and to collaborate with teachers and parents to ensure student success

Academic Support Intern will serve a 250-hour term during a semester

Academic Support Specialist
Classroom Aide
? Assist classroom teacher to develop appropriate learning centers and instructional materials to facilitate differentiated activities and individualized performance tasks
? Group students with similar needs for instruction.
? Assist with the facilitation of differentiated learning activities to address student ability and learning style
? Assist during arrival and dismissal of children in grades 1st-8th

Tutoring
? Assist children aged first through eight grade in the development of reading skills and enjoyment.
? Engage in academic activities with selected students either one-on-one or with small groups.
? Collaborate with the school supervisor and staff members to assess the student’s needs and how best to address them.
? Be able to tutor Reading, Writing, and/or Math, etc., as required
? Help students with subject content according to individual strengths.
? help students with study strategies and techniques.
? Assist in development and evaluation of tutoring material and services

Time Commitment
? Serve 10-20 hours a week during the school year

Qualifications and Experience
? Must have patience and a strong desire to help students achieve their goals
? Must be a Junior or Senior in college
? Minimum GPA 3.0
? Fluent in English and Spanish (reading, writing, and conversing) preferred
? Strong language and communication skills (written and oral)
? Ability to work with people from diverse background
? Ability to fulfill a one semester community service commitment
? Availability, dependability, and willingness to be flexible
