This is the perfect opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to gain experience in program coordinating, outreach, event logistics, and program tracking and evaluation. This is also the ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys working on a small, collaborative team.

The Teen Program Intern will have an extraordinary opportunity to gain experience in many facets of nonprofit management and direct service programming including

-Assisting in the coordination of after-school and Saturday programming that focuses on College & Career Development, Self-Esteem, Confidence, and Leadership
-Helping to develop workshop materials and lesson plans
-Reaching out to teens via email, phone, and Facebook
-Preparing for and assisting with large teen-mentor conferences and the end of the year Teen Showcase
-Updating and organizing existing program materials
-Supporting program administration and communications
-Interfacing with Step Up’s varied constituents, including teen girls, school staff, parents, and volunteers


The intern will report to the Step Up New York offices from March 2014 – June 2014. Schedule is flexible and will require, on average, the equivalent of 1.5 days a week.


Interns will receive school credit, as well as a travel stipend for the days that the intern will be working.

Also, interns are awarded a years worth of Step Up membership at the Icon level (valued at $250). Icon level membership includes free admission to all of Step Up’s professional development events.



• Strong people skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills
• High level of organization, the ability to multi-task
• Demonstrated leadership and teamwork qualities
• Passion for girls’ social issues and youth work
• Mastery of Word, Excel, and Google Docs
• Comfort with social media platforms
• Sensitivity with ethnically diverse and underserved communities
• Ability to build strong, lasting rapport with youth and their families


Flexible, equivalent to 1.5 days/week
