We are seeking talented and energetic news and editorial interns to research, write, and edit copy for our website. Location is not an issue since the internship enables you to work from anywhere in the world. You must therefore be self-disciplined and able to work independently, not to mention have your own reliable access to the Internet in order to actively participate in our Editorial Center.

Qualifications:

The well-intentioned but unreliable need not apply – we here at the Lithuania Tribune are passionate about our cause and thus serious about our internships. The internships are open to everyone but would likely best suit university students or recent graduates able to contribute 10 hours per week for 16 weeks. Mentoring by relevant Lithuania Tribune staff will be provided.

The ideal intern will have a hunger to push themselves to the limit in a small and scrappy environment and be able to work and stay on task without being micro-managed. You will be capable of mastering various responsibilities and possess a required level of skill and expertise.

However, it is most crucial to the team at the Lithuania Tribune that you share a passion for digital media which manifests itself through self-teaching and exploration, as well as the ability to bring new ideas to the table because you were thinking about them in the shower.

Fluency in English is a must-have. Fluency in Lithuanian is desired, but not essential. A passion for Lithuanian and international current affairs in the political and economic arenas is also a must-have.

Key responsibilities will include:

- Reporting to the hard news desk to assist with updating coverage and swarming on BNS, the Baltic Times, the Baltic Course, BBN breaking news. This includes contributing research to sidebars, producing photo galleries and tracking down Lithuanian news wherever possible.

- Operating our content management system to publish stories from news wires, with an eye toward formulating catchy headlines and sub-headings; helping to select photos and added elements to create a fully packaged story for readers.

- Contributing occasional self-written and researched news items.

- Monitoring of trends in the industry, other sources to report to editors several times daily on stories of potential interest to our audience.

- Formulating a list of story ideas for an original story to be researched and written during the course of the internship; this will include a weekly meeting to touch base on where the work stands in relation to a set deadline.

- Monitoring live feeds to assist in suggesting daily articles.

- Monitoring and contributing to comments on our comments section, Facebook and Twitter.

- Editing, captioning and posting articles from feeds and other source material.
