The Waterfront and Open Space Division of the Department of City Planning works on planning and land use issues affecting the waterfront and open space areas of New York City. The Division produced Vision 2020, the New York City Comprehensive Waterfront Plan, a ten-year strategic plan for citys waterfront and waterways. The Division is also responsible for administering the citys coastal zone management regulations by reviewing projects for consistency with the New York City Waterfront Revitalization Program (WRP).The Division is currently seeking a self-motivated undergraduate student intern for the Spring 2014 to assist with organizational duties and tasks related to the division’s work program. The ideal candidate will be a highly organized self-started who is seeking to gain experience in a professional office setting.
The Intern will be part of the Waterfront and Open Space Division and perform specific tasks including:
• Duties related to office organization, such as assist in organizing and digitizing the division’s files and photo library.
• Assist in organizing meetings, compiling materials and taking notes.
• Collect and synthesize research on waterfront planning topics, such as climate resilience planning, as needed.
• Support staff in developing management tools for the Waterfront Revitalization Program.
• Site visits to various waterfront sites.Schedule: Spring 2014 (dates negotiable); 10-20 hours/week (preferably 1 full day per week)

Qualifications:
Education:
• Undergraduate student currently enrolled in college or university with interests in Urban Planning, Government Administration, Political Science, Public Policy, Environmental Science or related disciplines.Preferred Skills:
• Strong organization and administrative skills
• Clear communication – verbal and written
• Motivated self-starter, ability to work independently
• Experience with Microsoft Office
