Fall 2013 Finance Intern
Preference will be given to students pursuing a degree in Accountancy or Business Administration. Finance or Economics degree candidates will only be considered if accompanied with a concentration in Accounting
Responsibilities:This position provides a concentration in Corporate Accounting, Financial Reporting and Budgeting
The Finance Intern assists the Finance Director in managing day-to-day accounting and finance activities of the Schwartz Center. S/he will assist in the administrative operations, financial statement preparation, spreadsheet analysis. This is a week-day position with a minimum 10- hour per week commitment. Your choice of work days/hours is negotiable.
Duties may include:
• Daily corporate accounting and accounts payable functions
• Prepare monthly journal entries
• Monitor expense allocations (for internal financial reporting)
• Prepare analysis for senior leadership meetings
• Manage corporate credit card accounts
• Manage Purchase Orders
• Prepare service contracts with outside vendorsRequirements:
1. The Schwartz Center is seeking a mature, reliable individual who demonstrates a strong attention to detail.2. Preferred field of study: pursuing a degree in Accountancy or Business Administration. Finance or Economics degree candidates will only be considered if accompanied with a concentration in Accounting.
3. The Ideal candidate can work independently, and possesses good analytical and problem solving skills.
4. Ideal candidate possesses strong computer skills, and is proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word, and has had some exposure to Microsoft Access, and/or Intacct accounting software.

The Center reflects the vision of Ken Schwartz, a Boston healthcare attorney who died of lung cancer at the age of 40 and found that what mattered to him most as a patient were the simple acts of kindness from his caregivers, which he said made the unbearable bearable. He founded the Schwartz Center in 1995 to ensure that all patients are treated with compassion. The Center is housed at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where Ken received his care.
