Company/Organization: Planet Connections Theatre Festivity

Through the Planet Connections Theater Festivity internship program, students can get an inside look at how theater festivals work and receive a well-rounded theater education with particular attention to four aspects of theater production: Artistic, Management, Marketing and Technical.

Under the four pillars that make up our core curriculum, interns will have the opportunity to learn experience or help with the following:

- Producing theatrical and special events in a socially conscious and eco-friendly way
- Producing and promoting a full show that will be part of the Festivity, with opportunities to direct, act and fill various crew functions (props, costumes, technical, marketing, etc.)
- Box office management, including working with OvationTix applications and services
- Event planning and management through the Festivity’s run and special events including the Festivity gala and awards ceremony
- Customer service
- Safety and crowd management
- Street team efforts and guerrilla promotion strategies for the Festivity overall, specific shows or special events
- Social media promotion
- Audience engagement and communication
- Load-in and load-out procedures, as well as storage management for all Festivity shows, staged reading series and special events
- Performing technical duties (including light and sound design or board operation)

Through the program, interns will also benefit from:

Learning about various aspects of theater production and business by working closely with Festivity staff and artists.
Attending workshops and talks by industry experts
Helping multiple local, national and international charities and causes sponsored by the Festivity’s artists
Gaining valuable work experience and making professional connections
Seeing plays by some of the most engaging new voices in American theater

The Festivity’s internship program begins June 1 with training. The festival runs June 15th – July 12th. The Awards Ceremony is August 8th. All interns must be in N.Y.C for the duration of training and the Festival. If interested, interns can participate in the PCTF Awards Ceremony (August 9th), the grand finale of the 2015 season.

Interns will work anywhere from 20 to 30 hours a week, with two days off weekly. At the end of each week, interns will share their experiences and reflect on what they learned or did through a brief report which the intern coordinator will post on the Planet Connections blog.

Internships are unpaid. Interns do, however, receive free tickets to all 30 to 35 shows in the Festivity and also get to attend the Festivity’s staged reading series, special events and industry workshops. College credit is available.
