Winter/Spring 2020 Public Relations and Social Media Internship Program

Margie Korshak, Inc.’s Philanthropy & Lifestyle Department is currently accepting applications for our Winter/Spring 2020 Internship Program! This internship will run from January through May. Our program offers hands-on experience that focuses on the ins-and-outs of public relations, social media and event planning. MKI internships are unpaid and students may receive school credit upon completion of their internship.

Responsibilities:
• Document and track secured client media coverage.
• Assist with client events including: TV segments, grand openings, galas, promotional opportunities, cocktail parties, luncheons, etc.
• Create targeted social media content for MKI pages and various clients’ social media profiles.
• Draft press materials including releases, media alerts, talking points, event submissions, etc.
• Create targeted media lists and track coverage impressions using Cision, Critical Mention and other online resources.
• Assist in the development of strategies for different clients through collaboration with executive team and independent research.
• Schedule client and agency content using Hootsuite, Facebook and Buffer.
• Research new strategies, technologies and social media trends.
• Edit/peer-review social media posts created by other interns prior to approval from executive team.

What to Expect as an MKI Intern:
• Receive instruction and hands-on experience doing entry-level public relations and social media work in an agency setting.
• Work closely with the executive team.
• Develop a thorough knowledge of local media relations and the ability to find appropriate media contacts.
• Draft creative and engaging social media while developing a solid understanding of social media strategy as it relates to public relations.
• Practice networking and event management skills at client and media events.
• Be held to the same standards as an entry-level employee, practicing good judgment and professionalism on a daily basis.

Qualifications:

Requirements:
• One previous internship in Public Relations, Social Media or related.
• A current full-time or part-time college student.
• Possess keen attention-to-detail and stellar organization skills.
• Familiar with AP-style guidelines.
• Must practice communicative and proactive approach to work, while multi-tasking and meeting strict deadlines.
• Must have an understanding of social media platforms including Hootsuite, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram.
• Available 20-24 hours per week, and select weekends for client events.
