Position Title: Volunteer Intern, Grassroots Development
Reports To: Director, Grassroots Development
Location: New York, New York
Hours/Days Per Week: 10 +
Length of Assignment: Ongoing/Flexible

Purpose:
The purpose of this position is to assist the Autism Speaks, Government Relations, staff in ef-fectively mobilizing grassroots volunteers both online and within their local community for a more targeted approach in working with the broader community to activate them more effectively during campaigns. We are seeking a team of interns across the country to assist us with our Autism Speaks Beyond the Beltway campaign.

Primary Responsibilities
• Assist with various projects to coordinate and organize the Autism Congress.
• Aid in data entry from petitions gathered in the field.
• Assist with contacting prospects for the Autism Speaks Beyond the Beltway initiative.
• Attend appropriate conference calls with staff and volunteers to learn more about the grassroots advocacy process and advocacy strategies.
• Position is volunteer and does not have a salary or stipend.

Future Possible Roles
• Make presentations about Autism Speaks and Grassroots Advocacy from a college students’ perspective in efforts to recruit more of your peers into taking part in the grassroots movement as part of your Autism Speaks U experience.
• Possible attendance at a local Walk Now for Autism Speaks event to assist Manager, Grassroots Development with hands-on running of an Autism Votes booth if there is one in your area during the time frame of the internships.

Ideal Candidate:
• Knowledge, understanding and support of Autism Speaks mission and goals. You can read more about Autism Speaks at www.autismspeaks.org and more about the Autism Votes program at www.autismvotes.org to better acquaint yourself with them.
• Savvy on social media and varying platforms
• Organized and detail oriented
• Ability to work well with a group but self-motivated
• Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills
• Demonstrated knowledge of political process
• Understanding of Word and Excel spreadsheet
