Washington, DCThe National Endowment for Democracy (NED) is a congressionally-funded, private, nonprofit grant making organization that works to support freedom around the world, and is seeking a Program Assistant for the International Forum for Democratic Studies. The position is based in Washington, D.C.
The International Forum for Democratic Studies at the National Endowment for Democracy is a leading center for research, discussion, thought, and analysis on the theory and practice of democracy around the world.
The International Forum seeks a full-time paid program assistant within the Research and Conferences Program. Successful candidates will be recent college graduates with an understanding of democracy and international politics. The program assistant position provides candidates with an excellent opportunity to improve their knowledge of democratization and international affairs, advance their research and writing skills, and introduce them to the democracy assistance community.
Qualifications:
• B.A. in political science, international affairs, or a related field required; M.A. preferred
• 1–2 years of work experience
• Experience assisting with event logistics
• Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and some Adobe Photoshop experience. WordPress, InDesign, and basic HTML (preferred)
• Experience using a contact management system
• Possess strong attention to detail and strong editing and writing skills
• Knowledge of one or more foreign languages preferred
• Experience living, working, or studying abroad a plus
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.The successful applicant will (1) have a keen interest in democracy and human rights; international development, the social sciences, or area studies; (2) possess excellent research, writing, and organizational skills; and (3) demonstrate professionalism and strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well individually and in a team setting and with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
