Mauliola Therapy is a small private practice currently accepting January 2024 applications for flexible part time mental health interns. This internship program is only for Masters students currently enrolled in a CACREP accredited clinical mental health counseling program who are seeking supervision to complete internship hours requirement. Hours are flexible and sessions scheduled within the timeframe determined by the intern and dependent on client inquiries. Session reimbursement rates are 25.00 per client/session and for those clients covered under Cigna 35.00 per client/session. Interns who are offered or accept Resident positions have increased rates of reimbursement.

MauliOla (Hawaiian for Breath of Life) Therapy is a small private practice located outside of Purcellville, VA on a family owned farm, Shiloh Manor. We utilize the small Spring House on the property surrounded by farmland, rolling hills, horses, sheep, goats, chickens, a donkey and infamous peacocks! All of this is accessible to employees, clients and therapeutic interventions (AAT). Applicants must be comfortable with facility/therapy dogs and have a tolerance for dog toys, dog treats, and dog playtime! Those with severe allergies may find the office space uncomfortable to work in although all health protocols are followed and outlined in all client contracts.

This internship is ideal for students who are interested in all modalities of therapy with an emphasis in trauma work. Our practice prioritizes our first responders and veterans in our community as well as PTSD and complex trauma clients. Our practice is open to all individuals seeking guidance ages 8- adult, with possible exceptions for clinicians who wish to include younger clients. We offer EMDR, trauma focused therapy, CBT, person centered, internal family systems, animal assisted therapy (Hero Dogs) and interventions tailored to our clients.

Approved interns can expect a relaxed and flexible working environment with emphasis on growing into your own identity as a solo practitioner. Hours may fluctuate given size of practice which makes this opportunity ideal for those working full or part time jobs while completing internship hours.

Interns enrolled will be introduced to treatment protocols and opportunities to develop therapeutic relationships with clients. Interns are responsible for and will be expected to return sessions inquiries with in 24 hours, complete progress notes in a timely manner, complete diagnosis and treatment planning, gain confidence in crisis response, and work within their scope of practice. Knowledge of virtual session planning and execution is necessary. Interns are expected to adhere to HIPPA guidelines and be involved in the supervision-supervisee contract, including individual and triadic supervision weekly with other interns/residents. Our practice offers continuing education and opportunities for additional trainings. Supervision and office space is provided at no cost to intern.

Interested interns ideally should be within driving distance to office and have reliable transportation. Well qualified interns who prefer to provide virtual client sessions only will be considered on a case by case basis- although a combination of both in person and virtual is preferred.
